WEEKEND AT A GLANCE
IUP Baseball (6-11, 0-4 PSAC West) returns to Dougherty Field, Friday, to begin a four-game, two-day series against the Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats (13-9, 1-3 PSAC West). The Crimson Hawks fell to a four-game sweep against Cal U last weekend, as the opened conference play. The Mountain Cats went 1-3 in their series against Mercyhurst last week.
NOTES
>> Sophomore
Nick Hess went a season-high 4-for-4 in the second game against Cal U, Saturday, extending his hitting streak to six games. He is batting .565 (13-for-23) with nine RBI, a double, three home runs and five runs scored over that time.
>> Hess leads the team and ranks second in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) with a .453 (29-for-64). He ranks in the PSAC, third in slugging percentage (.828), sixth in hits and eighth in homers (5).
>> The Crimson Hawks combined for a .311 (171-for-550) team batting average, topping all teams in the PSAC. Along with Hess, redshirt-senior
Matt Swartz ranks fourth in the conference with a .429 (24-for-56) average.
>> IUP went 1-3 against Pitt-Johnstown during the 2018 season, earning their only win in the final game of the four-game series.
Chris Eisel finished the series going 5-for-12 (.417) with five runs scored and driving in two runs. Swartz was also an offensive highlight, batting .429 (6-for-14) with three runs scored and an RBI over the four games.
