LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The IUP men's and Women's track and field teams completed their outdoor regular season this Saturday at the second day of the LHU Qualifier hosted by Lock Haven University. Saturday's meet provided the members of the IUP teams with one last chance to achieve a conference qualifying mark in their event(s) and earn an opportunity to participate in next week's 2019 PASC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Mansfield University. The meet also gave the members of the team who had already secured a spot in next week's championships with a chance for one final tune-up before the start of the post-season.
Several members of the IUP contingent in Lock Haven took advantage of their opportunity at the meet, as multiple Crimson Hawks earned top finishes in their events, as well as several event victories, and PSAC qualifying marks.
The 3,000 meter run proved to be an especially successful event for both the men's and women's teams, as IUP claimed first place in both races.
Corinne Brath earned a first place finish in the women's race with a time of 12:09.67, while on the men's side
Sam Cunkelman also finished first with a time of 9:28.21.
The women's triple jump continued to be a strong event for the Crimson Hawks with IUP athletes claiming two of the top five spots.
Nickeela Austin earned a second place finish with a distance of 11.71 meters, good for a PSAC qualifying mark, while
Stefanie Ketterman claimed fifth place with a distance of 10.65 meters.
IUP also earned a top five finish in the women's 400 meter hurdles thanks to D'Andre Carrie who came in third with a time of 1:08.27.
For the men's track and field team, the Crimson Hawks continued to dominate the 800 meter run by taking two of the top three places in Saturday's edition of the race.
Derek Noll once again claimed victory in the race, finishing with a time of 1:50.35. Teammate
Dylan Ruefle came in just seconds behind Noll to earn a third place finish thanks to his time of 1:52.95. Both Noll and Ruefle earned PSAC marks with their times. Noll's finish of 1:50.35 was not only his fastest time of the outdoor season so far, but also broke an 18 year old stadium record at Lock Haven.
Sam Lenze also enjoyed his time in Lock Haven, winning the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:00.2, and earning a PSAC mark in the process.
