WEEKLY NOTES

Crimson Hawks head to Mansfield Wednesday before home matchup with Bloomsburg
The IUP field hockey team (1-0, 0-0 PSAC) carries momentum into week two of the season with a game at Mansfield Wednesday (4 p.m.) before returning home to host Bloomsburg Saturday (1 p.m.). Although mandated PSAC matchups, these will count as non-conference games in the standings. The Crimson Hawks are coming off a resounding season-opening 5-1 win over visiting Frostburg State Saturday as freshman Blaise Cugini scored two goals and added an assist. Mansfield opened with two blowout wins while the Huskies are 0-1 after an overtime loss to Bellarmine.

QUICK HITS
>> The win over Frostburg State was the first in a season-opener for the Crimson Hawks since defeating Newberry 3-2 in OT to open the 2015 season.
>> The 5 goals scored were the most for IUP since scoring 6 against Seton Hill in 2017 and the most in a season-opener since putting 18 on Newberry in 2013.
>> Cugini's 3 points were the most by a freshman in their debut since Sarah Zeilinski had 3 goals in the 2013 win over Newberry.
>> Cugini was named an IUP Athlete of the Week for her performance
>> The Crimson Hawks dropped both matchups with Mansfield last year by one score differentials. The Mountaineers won 2-1 in double OT at Miller Stadium and 3-2 in Mansfield.
>> It was a similar result for IUP in its lone 2018 matchup with Bloomsburg, losing to the No. 7 Huskies 2-1.
>> These are the first two of five games against PSAC opponents that will not count in the PSAC standings. The Crimson Hawks will play 10 mandated conference matchups this year with the first coming September 28 against East Stroudsburg.
