NORTH EAST, Pa. – IUP men's golf rallied and put together a big second round as the Crimson hawks wrapped up play at the Mercyhurst Fall Invitational at Lake View Country Club.
IUP shot a tournament-best even-par 288 on Saturday, moving up three spots to finish the weekend in a tie for fifth place out of 12 teams. The Crimson Hawks shot a 599 over 36 holes, tying with West Chester and West Liberty, while rebounding from a 23-over 311 from round one.
Gannon won the tournament with a 7-over 583. Charleston was second with a 14-over 590 while host Mercyhurst finished third with a 17-over 593 and Goldey-Beacom was fourth at 19-over 595.
Leading the way for IUP on Saturday was
Jack Buccigross, who shot a team-best 1-under 71. He moved up eight spots after the first round to finish in a tie for sixth individually with a 2-over 146.
Shaun Fedor and
Richie Kline each shot even-par 72 in the second round. Fedor moved up 20 spots to finish the tournament in a tie for 18th at 6-over 150 while Kline jumped 19 spots to a tie for 30th with an 8-over 152.
Isaiah Swan, playing on his home course, shot a 1-over 73 during the second day and finished in a tie for 24th, moving up 14 spots with a 7-over 151. Wrapping up IUP's five-man lineup was
Nicholas Ward, who shot a 4-over 76 and finished in a tie for 49th with a 14-over 158.
This was IUP's second straight fifth-place finish to open the season.
