Hawks bounce back with low round at Malone-Glenmoor Fall Invitational

CANTON, Ohio — The IUP men's golf team rebounded in a big way Monday, posting the lowest team score of the afternoon in the second round of the Malone-Glenmoor Fall Invitational. The Crimson Hawks fired a five-under-par 283 in the second round at Glenmoor Country Club, climbing five spots on the leaderboard into fifth place heading into Tuesday's final 18 holes.

IUP opened the day with an uncharacteristic 313 (+25) in the morning round before turning it around with a 30-shot improvement in the afternoon.

Hillsdale leads the 54-hole event with a two-round score of 582 (+6), four shots ahead of Wayne State (Mich.) (586). Wayne State's Andrew Daily tops the individual standings at five-under-par through 36 holes, with Hillsdale's Robert Thompson one stroke back at four-under.

Sophomore Ben De Castro is tied for third individually and among just six players at even-par or better through two rounds. He opened with a 73 (+1) and followed with a steady 71 (-1) in the afternoon, highlighted by an eagle on the par-five fourth hole of round one. De Castro added five birdies in the second round, playing his final six holes at two-under.

Zaiden Dennis matched De Castro with a second-round 71, climbing into a tie for 23rd. He recorded four birdies in the afternoon and was one of four Crimson Hawks to post a par-or-better round on Monday.

Trevor Todd and Alex Swinnerton surged up the board with strong second rounds, both tied for 29th overall. Todd leapt 18 spots after an even-par 72, while Swinnerton vaulted 25 places thanks to a two-under 69 — his 32nd career round of par or better. Swinnerton's round featured four birdies and 10 pars.

John Olsen also made a big move, improving 24 positions with a second-round 73 to sit tied for 35th. Playing as an individual, Cameron GeRue is tied for 43rd after rounds of 78 and 79.

As a team, IUP led the 12-team field in pars on Monday, carding 116 across its lineup.
