JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — IUP men's golf made a strong move up the leaderboard Friday during the second round of the NCAA Regional at Sunnehanna Country Club.

After opening with a team score of 302 on Thursday, the Crimson Hawks responded with a 290 in the second round to climb five spots into a tie for 12th place with Bluefield State at 592 overall.

Senior Guillermo Salazar made the biggest jump of the day for IUP, climbing 44 spots into the top 20 individually. Salazar shot a 1-under-par 69 with two birdies during the round.

Senior Alex Swinnerton also moved up the standings, climbing 11 spots into a tie for seventh place after shooting even par Friday. Swinnerton carded three birdies, including two on the back nine.

John Olsen and Trevor Todd rounded out the counting scores for the Crimson Hawks with rounds of 75 and 76, respectively.

Wheeling moved into first place on the team leaderboard after two rounds with a score of 574 (+14). Gannon sits second at 576 (+16), while Pitt-Johnstown and Charleston are tied for third at 581 (+21). Glenville State rounds out the top five at 582 (+22).

The Crimson Hawks conclude regional play Saturday with the third and final round in Johnstown.
