JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – IUP men's golf lagged behind the pack during the opening round of the 2026 NCAA DII Atlantic/East Regional on Thursday at the par-70 Sunnehanna Country Club. The Crimson Hawks are 17th in the team standings with 36 holes remaining.
At a minimum, the top three teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional advance to the NCAA DII Men's Golf National Championships, May 18–22, at the Boulder Creek Golf Club in Nevada.
Gannon (285) leads the team standings by two shots, and Winston-Salem State (287) is close behind in second place. Host Pitt-Johnstown (289) is in a three-way tie for third place in the team standings, along with Wheeling and Adelphia.
IUP carded a 302 as a team on Thursday, paced by a two-over 72 from
Alex Swinnerton. Swinnerton is tied for 18th following a solid opening round, leading the field in par-three scoring average (2.60).
Individually, Gannon's Rasmus Seppanen and Bently's Jack Kantowski enter round two atop the leaderboard with identical rounds of 67 (-3). Five student-athletes finished with scores under par on Thursday.
Guillermo Salazar carded a 76 and is tied for 63rd. Salazar was building momentum at the turn, including a birdie on the par-five 11th hole, before turning in four bogeys over the last six holes.
John Olsen and
Trevor Todd recorded matching rounds of 77 and tied for 74th overall.
Jon Vinge finished with an 83 to round out the IUP lineup.
