Undefeated Crimson Hawks have two this week, open PSAC play Saturday

INDIANA, Pa. – The undefeated IUP field hockey team has a big week on tap that includes a night-time home match and its 2021 divisional opener against a top-10 opponent. 

Boasting a 4-0 record on the year, the Crimson Hawks will host Mercyhurst Wednesday night and then hit the road to face No. 6 Millersville on Saturday morning. 

Mercyhurst enters the week with an 0-6 record while Millersville is 7-0.

>> The Hawks rank fourth in the PSAC in scoring average (3.50) and scoring margin (+2.50) through four games this year. Their Saturday opponent, Millersville, leads the league in both - 5.57 and +5.0, respectively. 
>> Blaise Cugini and Georgiana Chiavacci are among the PSAC leaders in several scoring categories. Cugini ranks fourth in goals (1.25/game) and fifth in points (2.50) while Chiavacci is second in assists (.750) and sixth in points (2.25). 
>> Goalie Amanda Zaner leads the conference and ranks third in all of Division II with an .852 save percentage. Her 1.039 goals against average is third in the conference and seventh in the nation. 
>> Mercyhurst has turned into a rivalry for the Crimson Hawks, with the teams splitting their season series in both 2018 and 2019. The Lakers have dominated since 2012, winning 10 of the last 13 meetings overall.
>> The Marauders also have found success against the Crimson Hawks, going 8-3 in the series since 2010. Seven of those 11 meetings have been one-score games, with IUP going 3-4 in those instances.
