LOCK HAVEN, Pa – The IUP women's volleyball team had three players earn All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West honors, the league announced Thursday afternoon.
Lauren Valentic was named All-PSAC West first Team, while
Nicole Peterson and
Caroline Walsh picked up second team honors. The trio helped guide the IUP women's volleyball program to its first playoff berth and 20-win season since 2017.
Making big strides for first-year head coach
Lorelle Hoyer, IUP awaits a potential at-large bid in the NCAA DII Atlantic region Tournament. The selection show is Sunday, November 13 at 10:00 p.m.
Valentic ranks second in the league in blocks/set (1.08) and total blocks, while ranking third in the PSAC with a .333 hitting percentage at the time of release. She was named PSAC West Defensive Player of the Week on October 17 in her first season with the program.
Both Peterson and Walsh picked up their second career all-conference honors.
Peterson recently surpassed 1,000 career points in a setback last night to Clarion in the PSAC Quarterfinals. The senior leads the team in kills (271), logging 10 or more in 14 matches this season. The Cleveland, Ohio native is also second on the team with 35 aces.
Walsh was also among the most efficient hitters in the conference, collecting 194 kills this season. She was also third on the team in total blocks and fourth in points (213.5) as an offensive threat for the Crimson Hawks.
London Fuller (Clarion) earned the PSAC West Player of the Year award, while Gannon's Emma Hall, Arslan Bengisu and Matt Darling were also major award winners in the western division.
