IUP football earns top seed in Super Region One

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The IUP football program is back in the postseason, earning the top seed in Super Region One, announced prior to the NCAA unveiling the 28-team Division II playoff field on Sunday.

The Crimson Hawks receive a bye next week and home field advantage throughout the regional bracket. IUP will play an opponent to be determined on Saturday, November 26 in the NCAA Second Round at Miller Stadium.

The Crimson Hawks were third in last week's Super Region One rankings, but vaulted to the top spot following a 24-21 win over previously unbeaten Shepherd in the PSAC Championship game on November 12.

Seven teams make the playoffs in each of the four super regions, representing the 28-team field.

It marks the 20th NCAA Playoff appearance for IUP and first since 2019. It also marks the sixth postseason appearance since 2012. IUP has seven national semifinal appearances, with the latest coming in 2017. The Crimson Hawks have made the DII national title game twice in program history in 1990 and 1993.

IUP faces the winner of the 4/5 matchup between Ashland and Notre Dame (Ohio), taking place November 19. Other matchups in the opening round of the Super Region One bracket include Shepherd/New Haven and Assumption/Slippery Rock.
