CLEVELAND, Ohio – The IUP men's and women's swimming & diving programs had an impressive return to the poll on the opening day of Cleveland State's Magnus Cup on Thursday.
The first of the three-day event, IUP ranks sixth on the women's side and eighth in the men's standings. The even began with the preliminaries in the morning followed by the finals later in the day, with diving events taking place in between sessions.
Thomas McGillan set a pair of school records in the 50 free for the IUP men, posting fourth overall with a 20.58 in a race loaded with Division I competition. The school record also set an NCAA B Cut standard for McGillan.
Paige Mikesell (2:03.52) and
Rachel Johnson (2:04.63) each posted an NCAA B Cut standard in the 200 IM.
IUP set a school record in both the men's and women's 400 medley relay. The women's team of
Jordan Crupie,
Rachel Johnson, Mikesell and
Amber Baldani finished second overall with a time of 3:46.36. For the men,
Alexander Roth,
Athanasios Diamantidis,
Ryan Hartmann and
Luke Mikesell were second in the finals with a 3:20.80.
IUP posted 34 PSAC standards as a team.
Allison Brownlee earned sixth overall in the one-meter dive.
