YORK, Pa. - Mikesell siblings took home two individual titles as the 2022 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Swimming Championships opened Wednesday at the Graham Aquatic Center.
Sophomore
Luke Mikesell won the men's 1000 freestyle while senior
Paige Mikesell won the women's 200 IM during the evening finals session. It was one of two titles for
Paige Mikesell, who swam the lead leg of the women's 800 freestyle relay.
The younger Mikesell won his second straight conference title in the 1000 free, posting a personal-best time of 9:25.94. It was nearly five seconds better than second place Tom Powell of West Chester (9:30.32).
Paige won her third straight title in the 200 IM, following up her top prelims time by touching the wall in 2:02.58 in the nighttime finals.
She then helped the 800 free relay team win its second straight conference crown, breaking a program record with a time of 7:32.51. Joining her were
Amber Baldani,
Iliana Oikonomou and
Rachel Johnson.
Those wins were part of 19 combined individual scorers - 13 women, six men - and a pair of scoring relay teams on the first day.
Team standings
The IUP women, the defending PSAC champions, are currently second in the standings after two sessions. West Chester leads with 375 points while the Hawks trail with 322 points. Bloomsburg is a distant third with 187 points and Gannon is fourth at 163.
The IUP men are fifth after the first day with 87 points. West Chester also leads the men's standings with 175 points.
