YORK, Pa. - IUP's
Rachel Johnson and
Luke Mikesell each won individual titles on the third night of the 2022 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Swimming Championships at the Graham Aquatic Center Friday.
Johnson won the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:02.78, edging teammate
Claire Mikesell who followed with a time of 1:02.90. It was Johnson's second overall title of the week, her first individual, after helping the 800 freestyle relay team win on opening night. It was her second career individual title - also winning the 400 IM in 2021 - and followed back-to-back second place finishes in the 100 breast in 2020 and 2021.Â
Earlier in the night, Mikesell won the men's 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4;30.63, successfully defending his 2021 title in the event. This was Mikesell's second individual victory at this year's championships, and the fourth of his career.Â
Other top finishes for the Crimson Hawks on Friday night included
Olivia Santee (fourth, 5:07.89) and
Heather Hartmann (eighth, 5:09.74) in the women's 500 free;
Amber Baldani in the women's 100 back (fifth, 57.43);
Erin Moyer in the women's 100 breast (sixth, 1:04.47);
Julien Dampenon in the men's 100 breast (eighth, 58.64); and
Paige Mikesell (second, 2:00.33) and
Kaylee Kassa (fifth, 2:09.99) in the women's 200 fly.
Team standings
The IUP women remained second in the team standings, trailing leader West Chester 1180 points to 1021.5 points. Bloomsburg is a distant third with 627 points, Clarion is fourth with 580.5, and Gannon is fifth with 513.
On the men's side, IUP held onto its fifth position with 270.5 points on the week. West Chester also leads here with 611 points with Bloomsburg in second at 462, Gannon in third at 345, and Clarion in fourth at 342.

Saturday marks the fourth and final day of the PSAC Championships. Prelims begin at 10 a.m. with the finals starting at 5 p.m.
