YORK, Pa. - The IUP women and men finished second and fifth, respectively, as the 2022 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Swimming Championships wrapped up Saturday night at the Graham Aquatic Center.
IUP's women finished the four-day championships with 1,379.5 points, 269.5 points back of champion West Chester. The Crimson Hawks have now finished in the top-2 each of the last four seasons, including a conference title in 2021. The 269.5-point difference is the smallest gap from the top spot among IUP's second place finishes.
The men finished with 372.5 points during the week. The Hawks trailed champion West Chester (844.5), second place Bloomsburg (606), third place Gannon (476.5) and fourth place Clarion (435).
IUP had one conference champion on Saturday, as
Claire Mikesell won the women's 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:17.01. She was one of three Hawks in the top-8 of the event, including third place
Rachel Johnson and fourth place
Erin Moyer.
IUP had 10 more top-8 individual finishes, including eight individual:
Heather Hartmann (second) and
Olivia Santee (fifth) in the women's 1650 free,
Iliana Oikonomou (fourth) and
Paige Mikesell (fifth) in the women's 100 free,
Ryan Hartmann (sixth) and Thoams McGillan (seventh) in the men's 100 free,
Julien Dampenon (sixth) and
Kyle Mowid (seventh) in the men's 200 breast, and the women's (second) and men's (third) 400 free relay.
Top scholar
Also on Saturday,
Rachel Johnson was named to the PSAC Champion Scholar for women's swimming. The award goes to the student-athlete at each PSAC championship event with the highest cumulative grade point average. Johnson has a 4.0 GPA in hospitality management.

The NCAA Championships are March 9-12 in Greensboro, North Carolina. A list of IUP qualifiers and participants will be announced when released by the NCAA.
