Box Score 2 WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The IUP softball team defeated Felician 16-0 to highlight its final day on its spring break trip to Florida. The Crimson Hawks later lost to Southern Connecticut State 4-0. The Crimson Hawks head home with a 6-8 overall record after going 3-5 in their week in Florida.
Pitcher
Amanda Fischer tossed a complete game one-hitter to get the win over Felician. Her offense provided her plenty of run support as the Hawks scored in each of the four innings they came to the plate. IUP opened the first with five straight singles by Alyssa Schmidt,
Jordan Sylvia,
Jenna Rhue, Fischer, and
Renee Wall, scoring four runs in the process.
The big first led to five runs in the second, two in the third and five more in the fourth to cap the most dominant performance of the spring. Rhue blasted a 2-run home run in the third, her team-leading seventh of the season.
Bella Bucy pitched well in game two, leading off the game by striking out the side in the first. She kept Southern Connecticut State hitless until the fourth and had two outs in the fifth when the Owls captalized with two runners on with a 3-run homer to break to the tie. They added one more run in the sixth on a solo shot.
After the big opening game, the IUP bats cooled off with just three hits against Southern Connecticut State.
