INDIANA, Pa. - The IUP women's lacrosse team debuted at No. 4 in the Atlantic Region as the NCAA Selection Committee released its initial Division II tournament rankings for the sport Wednesday afternoon.
The Crimson Hawks are 10-4 overall and 7-2 in PSAC West play. They are winners of back-to-back games, including a 20-13 victory at Gannon last weekend. IUP has a .573 weighted strength of schedule, is 5-4 against teams .500 or better, and ranks fifth in the region with a .606 in-region RPI.
East Stroudsburg (11-1) leads the Atlantic Region with West Chester (11-1) at No. 2. Seton Hill is (11-3) is just in front of the Hawks at No. 3. Included in the regional rankings are Mercyhurst (8-4) at No. 5 and Millersville (9-5) at No. 6.
The top four schools in each of the NCAA's four Division II regions make up the 16-team championship field next month.
The NCAA Selection Committee will release its list of regional rankings two more times (April 27, May 4) ahead of the selection show on Sunday night, May 8.
