Crimson Hawks, Kirchtag featured in ITA's latest national rankings

INDIANA, Pa. - The IUP women's tennis program is ranked 34th in the Division II ITA Collegiate Tennis National Team Rankings released on May 26. In addition, Karolin Kirchtag is 64th in the ITA's national singles rankings.

The Crimson Hawks finished their season with an 18-8 overall record, a PSAC West regular season title, and with conference and Atlantic Region tournament championships, as they made their 10th NCAA Division II Championship round of 16 appearance since 2011.

At one point the Hawks won 13 consecutive matches over a 34-day period in April and May. That run included five divisional wins, which gave them a perfect 6-0 mark in the PSAC West, and featured four victories over nationally-ranked opponents.

Kirchtag was an obvious choice for PSAC West Athlete of the Year, sweeping regional and conference singles and doubles titles in the fall while going a combined 11-1 in divisional play this spring in leading IUP to another PSAC tournament title. Kirchtag finished the year with a 31-5 singles record, setting a new IUP record for victories, and had a 26-11 doubles record. She was ranked among the top-75 singles players in Division II all year, reaching as high as No. 13 early in the spring - the highest ranking by an IUP player ever.
