Four Hawks earn spots on All-PSAC women's tennis teams

INDIANA, Pa. - The No. 38 IUP women's tennis team had a total of four players earn all-league honors as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) announced its 2022 women's tennis postseason awards Friday afternoon.

Senior Karolin Kirchtag, junior Joanna Stralka and grad student Natasha Munday were first team singles selections, while Kirchtag, sophomore Katy Graydon, Stralka and Munday were first team doubles picks. In addition to her first team selections, Kirchtag was also named the PSAC West Athlete of the Year.

This is the second time in program history, first since 2017, that IUP has put three singles players on the first team. It's the third time since 2018 the Hawks have had two doubles pairings on the first team.

The group led the Crimson Hawks to their second straight PSAC tournament championship, a Western Division regular season title, and the No. 1 seed in the Atlantic Region for the 2022 NCAA Division II Championships. IUP enters the postseason with a 17-7 overall record.

Kirchtag swept the ITA Atlantic Region and PSAC singles and doubles crowns in the fall season, earning the program's first ever automatic bid to ITA Cup. She has a combined 55-15 overall mark, including an IUP record 30 singles wins, went 11 during divisional play, and has three separate win streaks of 10-plus matches. This is Kirchtag's second straight year of first team singles and doubles honors.

Stralka is 15-10 overall in singles play this year, seeing her most action in dual matches as IUP's No. 2 player, going 10-2 at that spot. She's 13-9 in dual play and went 4-2 against divisional opponents.

In her first year at IUP as a grad transfer, Munday is second on the team with a 21-6 overall singles record. She went 5-2 in fall tournament play, finishing as the PSAC runner-up, and is 16-4 during dual play, including 14-3 at the No. 3 spot.

Stralka and Munday have gone 19-12 together in doubles play this season. They were the regional finalists in the fall, went 5-0 against divisional opponents this spring, and have a 9-8 mark as IUP's No. 1 doubles paring.

Graydon paired with Kirchtag to win regional and conference doubles titles in the fall, opening the season with 10 straight victories, and earned a bid to the ITA Cup. The two are 23-8 together, including 14-5 in duals, and 12-4 as IUP's No. 2 doubles team. This is Graydon's second straight PSAC first team doubles honor.

PSAC postseason awards
A combined 17 first and second team PSAC West honors were handed out Friday. IUP had the most selections with seven while Mercyhurst and Slippery Rock each had five.
