INDIANA, Pa. - IUP freshman lefthander
Jimmy Tooley was named the PSAC West Pitcher of the Week for baseball, announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Tooley's award is the second PSAC player of the week honor for a Crimson Hawk this season, following shortstop
Markus Cestra next week. It's the first pitcher of the week award for IUP since then-freshman Jeff Allen earned the honor during opening weekend in 2016.
Tooley pitched a gem in his final outing of the season, a complete game, one-hit shutout in a 1-0 victory over Clarion on Sunday. The freshman phenom took his no-hitter into the final inning, giving up a single up the middle with two outs. He responded well, fanning the final batter to secure his finest start of the season. Tooley finished with seven strikeouts on the day.
Tooley finished the year with an 8-1 record and 4.17 ERA in 11 starts - all team-highs. He struck out 57 batters in 58.1 innings and allowed opponents to hit just .234.
