LEBANON, Pa. – The IUP men's golf team built a five-stroke lead over the opening round of the 2023 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships on Friday at Iron Valley Golf Club.
Logging a team score of 302, IUP owns a five-stroke advantage over Gannon (307). Millersville is third after the initial 18 holes with a team score of 309, followed by California (Pa.) (310) and Pitt-Johnstown (311).
Giovanni Delorenzi (Gannon) paced the field with an even-par 72 with Timothy Peters (Millersville), Connor Strine (West Chester) and Evan Rowane (Mercyhurst) all one shot behind with a one-over 73.
Individually, IUP placed three golfers within the top 10 and four among the top 15 overall. Freshman
Aidan LeBlanc paced the Crimson Hawk lineup with a two-over 74, good for fifth.
LeBlanc played the front nine at even par with birdies on the seventh and eighth holes, adding another birdie on the par-five 16th.
Sophomore
Guillermo Salazar, last year's PSAC individual medalist, is tied for sixth with an opening round 75. Salazar carded five birdies on the day, including on consecutive holes at 13 and 14. Salazar paced the 50-player field on par-five holes, posting a combined mark of four under on those holes.
Fifth year
Shaun Fedor, who has finished in the top 10 individually in all four of his previous conference championship appearances, slotted in a tie for eighth following a 76 on Friday.
Sophomore
Alex Swinnerton posted a five-over 77 on Friday, placing tied for 12th. Sophomore
John Olsen closed out the IUP lineup in a tie for 37th (84).
IUP led the field in combined scoring on par fours (+14) and tied for the team lead in combined birdies (13) on Friday.
