Softball Earns A “Gold Medal” On Day One Of Spring Games With Two Wins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – The Indiana University of Pennsylvania softball program broke its five-game slide on Saturday in the Sunshine State, besting the Southern Connecticut Owls by a score of 6-5 before blanking Lock Haven in game two, 5-0.

Tori Long and Bella Bucy combined to shutout the Eagles in the nightcap, using the bend but don't break method of allowing 14 total baserunners yet consistently tight roping out of danger with 11 fly outs and five groundouts compared to one strikeout each.

Meghan Grill was electric for the Crimson Hawks, hitting .714 (5-of-7) with a team-high five RBIs plus a double and two runs scored over the team's 14 innings.

Lexi Dawson shone brightly with a pair of two-baggers to go along with scoring twice and walking in the opener, adding a run scored after being hit by a pitch in the nightcap.

Jaycee Haidze only logged two singles but made both of them count, driving home three runs on that pair of swings while also walking and scoring once.

Madison Pikula played small ball to a tee on Saturday, coaxing a free pass before stealing second and scoring the deciding run on a pinch-hit appearance versus SCSU then snatching two bases against LHU as a pinch-runner.

Amanda Fischer played the role of stopper for IUP opposite the Owls, pitching a complete game despite surrendering five runs but made up for it with a season-high six whiffs.

Two morning matchups await the women from the Keystone State on Sunday with Bentley being the opponent at 9 a.m. and Alliance (formerly Nyack) will be the foe at 11:30 a.m. in the Sleepy Hollow Complex before an off-day Monday.
