TYRONE, Pa. – The IUP men's and women's cross country programs opened up the 2023 season with the Father Bede Invitational, hosted by St. Francis (Pa.) on Friday afternoon.
The IUP men's team finished second overall in the 10-team race, placing its entire scoring lineup among the top 15.
Dan Gibney paced the IUP finishers in fourth place with his 6K time of 19:32.4.
Joel Beckwith followed closely behind Gibney in fifth place overall with a 19:37.5
Mike Formica logged eighth in his IUP debut with a time of 19:53.6, while
Ethan Ribelin (20:00.2) and
Sam Moffat (20:07.1) rounded out the scoring lineup for the Crimson Hawks.
Marco Cardone was 23rd in 20:29.9, while
Nate Kuntz and
Nick Mascia posted finishes inside the top-30. Duquesne won the men's race with four runners inside the top 10, along with the top two finishers.
On the women's side, IUP was fifth overall with one runner among the top 20. Duquesne won the team title on the women's side, placing all its runners inside the top 10 and three inside the top five.
Abby Douglas was the top IUP runner, posting 20th place with a 5K split of 20:50.1.
Lexi Lovrich notched second among the IUP women's lineup in 35th overall (21:54.2), with
Julia O'Brien and
Stella Kuntz finishing consecutively inside the top 40.
Hannah Miller wasn't far behind the IUP pack in 41st with a time of 22:05.1, while
Katie McCormick notched 46th with her mark of 22:20.6.
