Hawks tied for first entering final round of King Invitational

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The IUP men's golf team is tied for first following the first round of the 36-hole King (Tenn.) Invitational, hosted by the Country Club of Bristol.
 
With a combined team score of 278 (-2), IUP is tied with Tusculum entering tomorrow's final round at the par-70 course. Individually, IUP placed a pair of golfers in the top five overall and three within the top 15.
 
Freshman Aidan LeBlanc shot the best round of his brief collegiate career on Monday with a three-under 68, good for third overall. LeBlanc carded four birdies on the round, all on the back nine, including consecutive bridies at the par-four 10th and 11th holes.
 
Sophomore John Olsen carded a career-best 68 to open play Monday, positioned fourth overall with a two-under par. Olsen notched four birdies on the day, with consecutive birdies coming at the 13th and 14th holes.
 
Fifth year Shaun Fedor finished tied for 14th with his first round tally of 71 (+1). Fedor shot a 32 on the front nine, including three birdies. On the par-three third hole, Fedor hit an outstanding tee shot to set up a birdie putt. From there, he carded consecutive birdies at the fifth and sixth holes.
 
Sophomores Guillermo Salazar and Alex Swinnerton each finished in a tie for 23rd with two-over rounds of 72. Salazar posted four birdies in the round with Swinnerton adding five more.
 
Playing as an individual, sophomore Cameron Gerue is tied for 34th place with a four-over 74. Gerue played the back nine at one-under par.
 
Despite sitting tied atop the team leaderboard following the opening 18 holes, IUP collectively struggled on the par-four 16th hole on Monday, playing the hole at a combined six-over par across the entire lineup. The hole included two double bogeys and a triple bogey on the day.
