ROME, Ga. — The IUP women's tennis all-star tandem of
Ming Deewajee and
Dani Ramos continued their winning ways with a 6-3, 6-2 dispatching Adelphi's Roisin Boyd and Katarina Liedback on Friday at the 2024 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Cup Quarterfinals.
The historic win clinched a spot in the national semifinals, marking the fourth victory in program history at the ITA Cup. Deewajee and Ramos have amassed three of those four wins for the Crimson Hawks — including last year's victory, along with consecutive triumphs in as many days in 2024.
"The ladies played clinical doubles today," IUP head coach
Andrew McGlashen said. "They played a style that allows them to contend with just about any doubles pairing in the country."
Ramos and Deewajee are 10-0 in doubles action this season and have already made the deepest ITA Cup run in program history with their berth in Saturday's semifinal matchup. The ITA Cup features some of the top doubles teams in the nation, all competing for a shot at an individual national championship.
Formerly known as the Small College Nationals, the ITA Cup has a history dating back to 1986. It's the only individual national championship event in collegiate tennis contested in singles and doubles for the Division II and NAIA levels.
Ramos and Deewajee won a tiebreaker on Thursday with a 4-6, 6-2 (10-6) triumph against Midwestern State in the opening round of the ITA Cup doubles draw.
