ROME, Ga. — Forcing a deciding third set, the IUP women's tennis doubles duo of
Ming Deewajee and
Dani Ramos came up just short in a spirited 3-6, 6-3, 10-7 decision against Angelo State in a seesaw Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Cup Semifinal clash on Saturday afternoon.
The third set super tiebreaker — played as a 10-point tiebreaker — saw both sides seizing the momentum throughout. IUP claimed the second set, 6-3, and forced a deciding third set in the national semifinals.
Angelo State's duo of Avery Durham and Eva Schwartz advance to the ITA Doubles Championship, contested tomorrow morning in Georgia.
IUP came out on the winning side of a super tiebreaker match on Thursday before advancing to the semifinals with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph against a pairing from Adelphi.
Formerly known as the Small College Nationals, the ITA Cup has a history dating back to 1986. It's the only individual national championship event in collegiate tennis contested in singles and doubles for the Division II and NAIA levels.
