CARLISLE, Pa. – The IUP men's and women's swimming teams had a strong showing on the opening day of competition at the 2024 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Swimming Championships on Wednesday.
Tyler Uhlig picked up two All-PSAC honors during the finals, posting third in the 1000 free (9:24.16) and joining
Luke Mikesell,
Luke Scoboria and
Stephen Goff for third in the 800 free relay (6:45.99).
Uhlig set a school and freshman record in the 1000 free earning an NCAA B standard in the process. Meanwhile, Mikesell set an NCAA B Standard with his 200 free time as the lead leg of the 800 free.
As a team, IUP is fourth in the women's standings (158.5) and fifth among the men's standings (75.5).
Thursday marked the first time in the previous 12 conference championship meets that the event was held at a different venue, previously contested at the Graham Aquatic Center in York. The Crimson Hawks are no strangers to the Keystone Aquatics Center, finishing out the regular season portion of the schedule with multiple meets there in late January.
Avital Flaishman scored in the women's 1000 free finals, nothing 13th with a mark of 10:41.74.
Olivia Santee (16th) and
Parker Fanella (18th) also scored in the event for the Crimson Hawk women.
Tina Cudina was seventh in the A-Final of the 50 free (24.00), while
Taylor Peoples was second among the B-Final and 10th overall in the event (23.87).
Mikesell swam to first place in the 1000 free during the prelims session at 9:41.23, finishing sixth after the finals heat. Goff added a 12th-place overall finish in the 50 free (21.23)
L. Scoboria finished 12th in the 1000 free, posting fifth overall in session one behind a 9:52.64 mark.
Blake Hendricks notched seventh in the morning session and 15th overall, touching the wall in 9:59.08.
Overall, IUP had nine swimmers qualify for the finals across the 200 IM (six) and 50 free (three). The women's team had four qualifiers in the 200 IM, paced by
Amber Baldani (9th; 2:09.41), along with
Summer Esson (13th),
Catrina Miller (20th) and
Erin Moyer (24th) in the prelims.
Athanasios Diamantidis and
Alexander Roth also qualified in the 200 IM for the men's squad, while
Stephen Goff qualified in the 50 free. Cudina (8th) and
Taylor Peoples (15th) swam their way into the finals in the women's 50 free earlier in the day.
Diamantidis and Roth each scored in the finals of the 200 yard IM for the Hawks.

IUP is back in the pool for Day Two of the 2024 PSAC Championships, taking part in session three (prelims; 10:00 a.m.) and session four (finals; 6:00 p.m.) on Thursday, February 15.
