LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- The IUP softball program swept the weekly awards handed out by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) with
Paige Truax and
Kendall Young earning recognition from the league, announced Monday afternoon.
Truax was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week, while Young earned PSAC West Pitcher of the Week honors.
Truax was consistent at the plate throughout IUP's trip to Florida for The Spring Games, collecting eight hits for IUP over the nomination period. She hit .500 with five RBI, two doubles and a stolen base for the Crimson Hawks.
Among the highlights for Truax last week were a three-hit game against Wayne State on March 15. She recorded the 100th hit of her collegiate career in that game against WSU, continuing her strong play following a two-hit effort with two runs scored and two RBI against Lewis the day before on March 14.
Meanwhile, Young had a pair of complete game efforts in the circle for the Crimson Hawks, including a shutout against Bloomsburg on March 14. She tallied seven strikeouts between the two strong pitching performances on March 12 and March 14, helping the Hawks to an extra-inning victory against Lewis.
Overall, Young has gotten off to a strong 5-2 start (1.88 ERA) in her debut season with the Hawks.
After shifting the schedule this week, IUP returns to the field for its divisional opener on Friday, March 22 at Gannon. First pitch in Erie is slated for 2:00 p.m.
