INDIANAPOLIS – The IUP women's tennis program is among the teams listed in the initial set of NCAA DII Atlantic Region rankings, released in alphabetical order this week.
These rankings ultimately determine the participating teams for the NCAA Tournament. The Atlantic Region includes schools from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), the Mountain East Conference (MEC), the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and select independent institutions.
The three conference tournament champions receive an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. The final four teams in the region will receive at-large bids to the NCAA Tournament.
A new set of regional rankings are released each Wednesday through the conclusion of the season. Among the schools in this week's listing (April 17) are Charleston (MEC), Fairmont State (MEC), IUP (PSAC), Mercyhurst (PSAC), Millersville (PSAC), Shaw (CIAA), Slippery Rock (PSAC), Virginia State (MEC) and WV Wesleyan (MEC).
IUP is the three-time defending PSAC champions and have already locked up the PSAC West regular season championship in 2023-24. With a 6-0 record in conference play, the IUP women's tennis program is seeking a fourth straight conference championship, contested April 30, May 3 and May 4 at Bloomsburg.
First-year head coach Andrew McGlashen has helped orchestrate another strong season for the Crimson Hawks, which boast five regional titles since 2017. IUP has made 11 NCAA DII National Championship (Round of 16) appearances in the last 13 seasons.
IUP finishes the 2023-24 regular season against Wilmington (Del.) on Friday, April 19.
