IUP within reach of nationals berth entering final round of NCAA DII Super Regional

WHEELING, W.Va. – The IUP men's golf team is tied for fourth overall within a logjammed group of 11 teams fighting for three spots, following the second round of the 2024 NCAA DII Atlantic/East Regionals on Friday.
 
The top five teams advance onto the 2024 NCAA DII National Championships. Gannon (576) and Charleson (W.Va.) (586) pulled away from the field through two rounds. From there, third through 13th place is separated by 10 shots.
 
IUP is tied for fourth with a two-round total of 601, along with Davis & Elkins and Adelphi. Assumption (602), Post (602) Fayetteville State (603) and Golden-Beacom (604) close out the top 10.
 
The Crimson Hawks closed out the first round in the morning before continuing play for round two at the par-71 Speidel Jones Course. The final 18 holes tee off tomorrow.
 
Gannon boasts the top two individuals through 36 holes with Michael Wareham (-5) and Shaunak Rama (-1), leading the field going into Saturday.
 
Guillermo Salazar rocketed 44 spots up the individual leaderboard with a second round 69 (-2) on Friday. Salazar was three under through the front nine, ending the round with his second eagle of the tournament on the 18th hole. With a two-round mark of 147, Salazar is tied for 13th.
 
Salazar's jump up the individual standings was the second biggest of the entire field, only trailing Charleston's Rory Gorman, who moved ahead 45 places into a tie for 22nd. Salazar is tied for the top score in the field on par five holes, shooting a combined -4 throughout the tournament.
 
Cameron Gerue carded a 79 on Friday, closing 36 holes of play in a tie for 30th. Alex Swinnerton and Shaun Fedor each carded second round marks of 75 on Friday, falling victim to a tough stretch of holes on the back nine.
 
Swinnerton is tied for 34th, while Fedor is tied for 56th individually. Aidan LeBlanc rounded out the IUP lineup in a tie for 94th.
