No. 49 IUP women’s tennis returns to Florida for NCAA Round of 16

INDIANA, Pa. – The 15th-seeded IUP women's tennis team squares off against second-seeded Nova Southeastern in the first round of the 2024 NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship. The Championship is hosted at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
 
IUP's first round match is scheduled for Monday, May 20 at 1 p.m.
 
IUP, ranked No. 49 in the ITA DII poll, is 16-8 overall with a 12-match winning streak. Nova Southeastern is 23-4 overall and ranked second nationally.

IUP IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
>> IUP is making the program's 16th all-time NCAA Tournament appearance, including four straight seasons.
>> IUP was selected as a host site for the Atlantic Regional in 2024, defeating Shaw and Slippery Rock to advance to the NCAA Round of 16. Two schools from each region advance to the NCAA Round of 16 finals site.
>> IUP is 25-15 all-time in the NCAA tournament. The Hawks have a 25-4 record in regional play with an 0-11 mark at the NCAA's final site. 
 
NCAA TOURNAMENT AT A GLANCE
>> The 16 advancing teams at the NCAA Championship were seeded based on season results, with IUP earning the No. 15 seed.
>> Barry earned the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament. 
>> The IUP/Nova Southeastern winner will square off against the winner of No. 7 Wayne State (Mich.)/No. 10 Washburn.
>> IUP lost to Wayne State, 4-1, in last season's NCAA Round of 16.
 
NEWS/NOTES
>> First-year head coach Andy McGlashen was named the PSAC West Coach of the Year this week.
>> IUP had four total All-PSAC First Team honors. Deewajee, Graydon and Vlachou were named All-PSAC First Team in singles, while the doubles duo of Deewajee/Ramos earned recognition in doubles.
>> Ramos was named All-PSAC Second Team in singles. Graydon/Vlachou picked up second team all-conference honors as a doubles pairing, one of seven total honors from the league for IUP.
>> Graydon (153) and Vlachou (137) are both among the top 10 in program history in combined career victories. The duo are the lone returners to the program from last season.
>> IUP has won its regional pod six times in program history, advancing to the NCAA Round of 16.
>> The Crimson Hawks have bested Slippery Rock in three consecutive years in both the conference championship match and regional round of 32. 
>> Beitat enters the NCAA Round of 16 with a team-best 11 consecutive wins in singles play. She has played a key role in the program as a first-year contributor, securing the clinching win in the NCAA Round of 32.
>> Nova Southeastern posted a national runner-up showing in last season's NCAA Tournament. Natalie Espinal is the first player in Sunshine State Conference history to be recognized with first-team singles honors five times in a collegiate career.
>> Espinal holds a record of 114-22 in singles matches and 108-16 in doubles, named the ITA Regional Senior Player of the Year.
