No movement for IUP on leaderboard despite strong finish in second round

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The IUP men's golf team carded 16 combined birdies on the day, collectively posting 10 over the final five holes of the round. Despite the strong finish, IUP remains in 17th overall after two rounds at the 2024 NCAA DII Men's Golf National Championships at Orange County National.
 
As a team, IUP posted a 290 score on Wednesday, notching a lower score than top-ranked North Georgia (291). The Hawks tied with Grand Valley State in round two, a team in position to make the eight-team cut for medal/match play.
 
Oklahoma Christina paces the field following two rounds with a combined mark of 552. West Florida and Colorado Christian trail behind at 561. Individually, Wyatt Provence of West Texas A&M leads the field at nine under through 36 holes.
 
Alex Swinnerton paced IUP with an even-par 71 on Wednesday, recording six birdies for the round. Swinnerton is tied for 65th following 36 holes, zipping up 16 places individually for the Hawks.
 
Jon Vinge and Shaun Fedor each carded one-over scores of 72. Vinge (143) is tied for 37th after consecutive strong rounds of 71 (E) and 72 (+1). Playing in his first NCAA DII National Championships, Vinge rounded out his second set of 18 holes with consecutive birdies to pull back to one over.
 
Meanwhile, Fedor birdied two of his final five holes and improved his score by one shot from Tuesday. Tied for 54th with a 145, Fedor locked in on the back nine with six pars and a final score of -1 during that stretch.
 
Cameron Gerue posted a 75 on Tuesday for a two-round total of 154. Guillermo Salazar battled a pair of tough-luck double bogeys on the front nine, logging a 77 on Wednesday and a 153 after two rounds.

Up Next
IUP closes stroke play on Thursday, May 23 at Orange County National Golf Center. The Crimson Hawks begin the round at 8:25 a.m., playing in a pairing with Harding and the five individuals that advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
 
An individual national champion will be crowned following the third round on Wednesday. From there, the field will be cut to eight teams for head-to-head medal/match play.
