Pontoli, Aponte named All-PSAC Second Team

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – IUP baseball had a pair of All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) honorees as Harrison Pontoli and Ricardo Aponte were named to the second team on Wednesday afternoon.

The all-conference teams and major awards are determined by a vote of the conference's head coaches.

Payton Conte (California) earned PSAC West Athlete of the Year honors. Gabe Gillott picked up PSAC West Pitcher of the Year laurels, while the Seton Hill duo of Owen Mandler (Freshman) and Marc Marizzaldi (Coach) were also among the major award winners.

Pontoli earns his third career All-PSAC honor, named to the all-conference teams each of the last three seasons. He became the seventh player in program history to reach 200 career hits, slashing a double last weekend against Mercyhurst.

Pontoli is among the program leaders in career hits (201; T5th), at-bats (644; 2nd), doubles (38; T5th), triples (12; 6th), home runs (17; T7th), RBI (135; 4th), total bases (314; 5th) and walks (100; T2nd). He had a reached base streak of 19 consecutive games this season, cracking a team-high six home runs.

Pontoli was named All-PSAC Second Team in 2022, picking up All-PSAC First Team honors last season in 2023.

Aponte has burst onto the scene as a transfer for the Crimson Hawks in 2024, leading the team with 50 hits while batting at a .333 clip. He boasts a team-high 11 doubles and registered 32 RBI in 44 games during the regular season.

Aponte has a team-high 16 multi-hit efforts in 2024, reaching base safely in nine straight games to finish out the regular season.

As a team, IUP is 31-13 in 2024 as the number two seed in the PSAC West.

IUP begins action in the 2024 PSAC Baseball Tournament on Wednesday, May 8 against Millersville. First pitch from Critchfield Park is set for 9:30 a.m.
