Indiana, Pennsylvania — The Indiana University of Pennsylvania Department of Athletics has announced the hiring of former Crimson Hawks standout Jordan Sylvia as assistant coach for the IUP softball program.
Sylvia spent the fall season serving as a volunteer assistant under head coach Shawna Bellaud before being promoted to head assistant. Her return marks a continuation of a strong connection to the program after a successful playing career in the crimson and gray.
"It's special to welcome Jordan back to the program, but it's even more exciting to bring her back as a coach," Bellaud said. "She embodies the competitive spirit and selflessness that defines IUP Softball. Jordan understands our expectations, our culture and what it means to compete at a championship level. She's prepared to pour into our student-athletes and help push this program forward."
As a player, Sylvia competed four seasons for IUP and developed into one of the program's most consistent offensive contributors. She finished her career with a .319 batting average while recording more than 170 hits and scoring over 100 runs. Her combination of power and consistency placed her among the program's career leaders.
Sylvia ranks among the top 10 in program history with 20 career home runs, including a career-best eight long balls during the 2024 season. Known for her leadership and steady presence in the lineup, she helped guide the Crimson Hawks through multiple competitive campaigns in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.
In her new role, Sylvia will assist with player development, recruiting and day-to-day operations while working closely with Bellaud and the coaching staff. Her familiarity with the program's standards and expectations is expected to provide a seamless transition into the coaching role.
