PREVIEW: IUP Opens Quest for Sixth Straight PSAC Title Against Millersville

INDIANA, Pa. — The road to another PSAC championship begins Monday at Maple Street Courts, where the IUP women's tennis team will open postseason play with a familiar goal: defending its conference crown.

The Crimson Hawks, the No. 1 seed from the PSAC West, will host Millersville, the No. 4 seed from the East, in the PSAC quarterfinals as IUP looks to capture its sixth consecutive PSAC tournament championship.

IUP enters the postseason as the No. 1 team in the Atlantic Region and one of the hottest teams in Division II. The Crimson Hawks finished the conference schedule undefeated and carry a 14-match winning streak into Monday's matchup, tied for the longest streak in program history.

Throughout conference play, IUP has been dominant from top to bottom of the lineup. The Crimson Hawks rolled through the PSAC schedule, with their only tightly contested match coming in a 4-3 victory over Slippery Rock, the No. 2 team in the Atlantic Region and IUP's top challenger in the West.

That win helped solidify IUP's position as both the top seed in the conference tournament and the top-ranked team in the region heading into postseason play.

The team's success has come through balance rather than relying on one star. From No. 1 singles through No. 6, the Crimson Hawks have consistently controlled matches, while strong doubles play has helped them take early momentum in nearly every contest.

PSAC West Athlete of the Week Charliz Tabili has played a major role in that success, delivering key performances in clutch moments, including the match-clinching point against Slippery Rock. Veterans such as Lea von Kozierowski and Annemiek Sterk have also helped anchor the lineup during the program's historic run.

Millersville enters Monday after securing the No. 4 seed in the East with a win over Shippensburg in the final match of the regular season. The Marauders finished 2-3 in conference play, with victories over Kutztown and Shippensburg, and will look to play spoiler against the conference's top seed.

While IUP enters as the clear favorite, postseason tennis often brings added pressure, where momentum can shift quickly and regular-season records matter little once tournament play begins.

Still, the Crimson Hawks have made winning in April and May a habit.

IUP has claimed five straight PSAC tournament championships and has positioned itself once again as the team to beat. Another conference title would further cement one of the most dominant stretches in program history and strengthen the team's case for hosting opportunities in the NCAA Atlantic Regional.

For now, though, the focus remains on Monday and the first step toward another championship run.

The first serve is set for Monday afternoon at Maple Street Courts, with the Crimson Hawks looking to keep their season — and their title streak — alive.
