Sophomore women's basketball player Megan Smith was named an IUP Athlete of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, January 10. It's the guard's first career IUP weekly honor.
Smith averaged 17.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in helping the Crimson Hawks to wins of 56-45 over Millersville and 81-70 over Slippery Rock last week. She shot 57.9 percent (11-of-19) from the field and 76.9 percent (10-of-13) from the foul line and averaged 30.0 minutes in the two wins.
Smith set a new career-high against The Rock with 21 points on Saturday, just missing a double-double with nine rebounds. She shot 8-of-12 from the field, scoring 14 of those points in the opening half. Against Millersville on Wednesday, she scored 13 points and had three blocks in limited playing time, going 7-of-8 from the foul line.
Smith averages 11.2 points and 7.6 rebounds per game for the Crimson Hawks, who are 12-3 overall and 9-2 in the PSAC.
