Senior swimmer
Nicole Smith and senior mid-distance runner
Derek Noll were named the IUP Athletes of the Week, announced by the IUP Sports Information Office Monday afternoon.
This is Smith's fourth career IUP weekly award and the first for Noll.
Smith led all IUP swimmers with 107.5 points as the Crimson Hawks competed in the 2019 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Swimming Championships last week in York. She tallied two second and two third place individual finishes, four NCAA B standards, and swam on three top-3 relay teams, including the school record breaking 400 medley relay.
Smith posted second place finishes in the 100 and 200 freestyle and earned third place in the 50 and 500 freestyle.
She was the anchor for the 400 medley relay squad that finished with a time of 3:46.66 and broke the 5-year old school record by 0.30 seconds.
Noll won the men's 800 meter individual title as IUP competed at the 2019 PSAC Indoor Track & Field Championships Saturday at Edinboro. It was his first individual indoor championship.
Noll finished with a time of 1:56.65 to edge out Cal's Kyle Tumpak by nearly a half-second in the 800.
Noll also ran the anchor leg for IUP's winning 4x800 relay team. He teamed with
Justin Jones, Michael Clark,
Dylan Ruefle and crossed the line with a time of 7:51.75. The time was just .35 seconds away from breaking the school record.
Noll also ran the second leg of the fifth place 4x400 relay team.
