Paige Mikesell and
Rachel Johnson were named IUP Athletes of the Week, announced by the sports information office Monday morning.
This is the second career IUP weekly award for Mikesell, including the first this year, and the first for Johnson.
The two helped IUP swimming put together a successful three days at Cleveland State's eighth annual Magnus Cup this past weekend.
Mikesell hit three NCAA Division II B qualifying times in Cleveland, including the 200 IM, 100 butterfly and 200 butterfly. She finished near the top in each event, coming in second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:04.73, third in the 100 butterfly at 55.02, and fourth in the 200 butterfly at 2:05.16.
Mikesell hit her qualifying time in the prelims of the 200 fly with a time of 2:02.82.
Johnson posted an NCAA B qualifying time in the 200 breaststroke with a mark of 2:19.61 on the final day of competition. That mark was good for second overall in the top finals heat.
She fell just short of another NCAA mark in the 100 breaststroke the day before, finishing with a time of 1:04.35, just :00.27 off the pace. It was one of her two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying times, also hitting a mark int eh 200 IM at 2:08.09.
Both Mikesell and Johnson helped relays to top-10 finishes in the 400 medley and 400 freestyle. Mikesell also swam on the eighth place 200 free relay.
