After a Saturday sweep of Slippery Rock, senior basketball players
Malik Miller and
Lexi Griggs were named IUP Athletes of the Week, announced Monday morning by the sports information office.
These mark the third IUP weekly awards for both Miller and Griggs who have each been on hot streaks of late.
Miller scored 28 points on 10-of-19 shooting to spur a ninth-ranked Crimson Hawks' 96-60 blowout win of SRU at the Kovalchick Complex. He added five rebounds, three assists and two steals in just 26 minutes on the court.
Miller did a lot of damage early, scoring 10 of IUP's first 21 points before the game was eight minutes old. He finished with 15 points in just 10 first half minutes as the Crimson Hawks led by as many as 30 points before halftime.
Griggs led the IUP offensive attack with 21 points as the fifth-ranked women's team defeated The Rock 77-48. She shot an efficient 7-of-9 from the floor, made both of her 3-point attempts, and was a perfect 5-of-5 from the foul line.
It was Griggs' second 20-game of the season as she helped IUP extend its record win streak to 19 straight games. She added four rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal in 35 minutes.
