Jeremy Eckenrode and women's lacrosse freshman
Jordan Kulp were named IUP Athletes of the Week, announced by the sports information office Monday morning.
This is the second edition of the IUP weekly awards announced following the cancellation of spring sports due to the COVID-19 pandemic March 13.
Despite the cancellation of spring sports, IUP Athlete of the Week honors will continue through the rest of the semester, highlighting student-athletes and how they've transitioned in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Softball freshman Hope Jones and baseball junior Colin Williams were featured last week.
Eckenrode went to Central Cambria High School in Ebensburg, Pennsylvania and has a 3.14 grade point average as a finance major.
"What I miss most about this year's team is just being able to hang out with the guys every day," said Eckenrode. "We had a lot of fun this year and were able to accomplish a lot of great things on and off the golf course. I believe we were going to do some great things this spring semester and accomplish a lot of the goals we established as a team at the beginning of the year.
"There are a lot of great things ahead for this group of guys and I know everyone will come back next year ready to pick up where we left off."
Eckenrode finished the spring ranked No. 4 in GolfStat's Atlantic Region player rankings. He was second on the team with a 75.27 scoring average, posting four top-10 finishes in five events.
Kulp is a nursing major with a 3.12 grade point average from Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
"While every season presents challenges and as we try to find new chemistry and new leaders, next year will be especially demanding because this season was curt so short," said Kulp.
"We're going to have to work extremely hard this summer and during fall practices to make sure that we are ready for a full season next year."
Kulp led all IUP freshmen in scoring and finished second on the team with 10 goals, eight assists and 18 points in just four games. She had three 3-goal games and dished out six assists in another contest.
