Brianna Liebold Takes Over Top Spot in Nation in Indoor Long Jump

Brianna Liebold turned in a jump of 5.76 meters in the long jump at the Al Hall Freedom Games at Edinboro to rank No. 1 in the nation in the event.

Liebold was one of five IUP first place finishes at the meet. She was joined on the women's side by Krista Matsko, who took first in the 400 meters with a time of 1:01.68. In men's individual events, Clint Keller won the mile (4:15.05) and Brandon Ford captured the triple jump (13.81 meters).

The men's 4x400 meter relay team of Jared Long, Sean Jones, Alex Patterson and Anthony Flowers posted a winning time of 3:30.20.

Overall, IUP earned a total of 20 qualifiers for the PSAC indoor meet.

The Crimson Hawks added 12 other second and third place finishes, including a third place showing by Liebold in the 200 meters (26.87). Laurie Ajavon also placed in the top three in two events, taking second in the long jump (5.53 meters) and third in the 60 meter dash (8.24).

Runner-up finishes for the women were also achieved by Laura Nientimp in the 60 (8.08), Ayanna LeBlanc in the shot put (12.38 meters) and Liz Tepsic in the pentathlon (2,835 points). Flowers was second in the men's long jump (6.68 meters).

Finishing third for the women were Alyssa Taddie in the 3000 meters (10:45.99) and the team of Matsko, Brooke McDaniel, Antonette Acosta, Mercedes Ortiz in the 4x400 meter relay (4:13.84).

Nafee Harris was third in the men's 200 meters (22.47) and Elly Kiptoo-Rono was third in the 3000 meters (8:55.52).

Both IUP teams compete next at the Lake Erie Invitational on Saturday.
