Day 1 Results and Team Scores
Brianna Liebold and Laurie Ajavon finished 1-2 in the women's long jump while Nafee Harris took second in the men's long jump to highlight the opening day of the PSAC indoor track and field meet at Edinboro.
Liebold jumped 18 feet, 10 ½ inches to edge teammate Ajavon by two inches. The same pair finished second and third, respectively, at both the indoor and outdoor championships last year.
Harris, a three-time national champion in the long jump, had a top performance of 24-6 ½ in taking the runner-up spot behind Herman Kirkland of Shippensburg.
Liz Tepsic finished third in the pentathlon and Yoann Godet stands second after four of the seven events in the heptathlon.
Tepsic had a total of 3,118 points, including a second place showing in the 60 meter hurdles (9.50) and fourth in the long jump (15-9) and shot put (34-1 ½).
Godet has 2,635 points, 165 behind leader Chris Ammann of Lock Haven. Godet was second in the long jump (21-2 ¾) and third in the shot put (36-4 ¾) and high jump (6-0 ½).
Both IUP distance medley relay teams scored. The men's team of Victor Costello, Jared Long, Steve Wainwright and Clint Keller was third in 10:14.18 while the women's team of Lauren Bauer, Antonette Acosta, Katie Peters and Alyssa Taddie was seventh in 12:42.63.
Shona Young turned in a seventh place finish in the women's pole vault, clearing the bar at 11-0 ¾.
In preliminary action, Harris advanced to the finals in both the 60 meters (7.02) and 200 meters (22.08). Liebold (7.96) and Laura Nientimp (7.99) moved into the finals in the 60 meters while Brooke McDaniel advanced in the 400 meters (58.08).
In the team standings, the IUP women are fourth with 28 points, trailing Shippensburg (44), Slippery Rock (43) and Kutztown (30). The men are in sixth place with 14 points. Shippensburg leads Lock Haven by 13.5 points for the top spot.
The two-day meet wraps up on Sunday.
