Final Results and Team Scores
Brianna Liebold won the triple jump for her second event title and Leander Toney took first place in the high jump on the final day of the PSAC indoor track and field meet at Edinboro.
The IUP women finished third with 74 points, trailing only Shippensburg and Slippery Rock in the team standings, the best finish the team has ever enjoyed at the PSAC indoor meet. The men were sixth with 49 points with Shippensburg winning that competition as well.
Liebold added to her long jump title on Saturday by posting a distance of 39 feet, 7 ¼ inches in the triple jump. She has a total of four PSAC indoor championships in the two jumping events, having also won the long jump as a sophomore in 2009 and the triple jump as a junior a year ago.
For her accomplishments over the weekend, Liebold was named the Field MVP for the second straight year at the PSAC indoor meet.
Liebold also scored in the 60 meter dash, placing fourth with a time of 7.92. IUP had two athletes finish in the top eight in both the triple jump and 60 meters, with Laurie Ajavon taking third in the triple jump (37-5 ¼) and Laura Nientimp finishing sixth in the 60 (7.96).
Ajavon was also the runner-up to Liebold in the long jump on Saturday.
Toney has won the past two PSAC high jump championships, also taking first place at the outdoor meet last spring. He cleared the bar at 6-11 on Sunday to win by four inches over Chris Ammann of Lock Haven, set a new PSAC indoor record and earn an automatic qualification for the NCAA meet.
Several other IUP athletes turned in outstanding performances on the final day of the meet, including a second place finish for Ayanna LeBlanc in the women's shot put with a throw of 41-3 ¼.
Chelsea O'Hanlon tied for third in the high jump (5-3 ¾) and Brooke McDaniel was fourth in the 400 meters (58.06). The women's 4 x 400 meter relay team of McDaniel, Nientimp, Krista Matsko and Liz Tepsic finished fifth (4:00.64).
The men had three third place showings, including Yoann Godet in the heptathlon (4,662 points), Brandon Ford in the triple jump (47-11) and Steve Wainwright in the 800 meters (1:54.83).
Nafee Harris placed in the top eight in two events, taking fifth in the 200 meters (22.49) and eighth in the 60 meters (7.14). Victor Costello was seventh in the mile (4:16.65) and Garry Turner was eighth in the triple jump (44-9 ¾).
