IUP Athletes Claim Six Event Titles at Bill Van Horne Invitational

Jared Long won the 400 hurdles and closed in on a national qualifying time

Brooke McDaniel, Lauren Bauer, Brianna Liebold and Jared Long finished first in individual events while IUP took two relay titles at the Bill Van Horne Invitational hosted by Wheeling Jesuit.

In the women's meet, McDaniel won the 400 meters with a time of 57.71, Bauer crossed first in the 3000 meters in 10:48.40 and Liebold led a 1-2 Crimson Hawk finish in the long jump with a mark of 17 feet, 7 inches. Laurie Ajavon was next with a best jump of 17-1 ¼.

IUP also won the 4x100 meter relay, with the team of McDaniel, Liebold, Ajavon and Laura Niencamp finishing in 49.30.

Long posted a time of 54.11 in the 400 meter hurdles and missed on an NCAA provisional qualifying mark by just .21. The 4x100 meter relay team of Hopeton Bailey, Alex Patterson, Elijah Williams and Anthony Flowers won with a time of 43.01.

Finishing second for the women were Krista Matsko in the 400 meter hurdles (1:05.95) and Alyssa Taddie in the steeplechase (11:59.86). Nientimp was second in the 100 meters but no time was available since the system malfunctioned.

Men's runners-up included Williams in the 100 meters (11.50) and Brandon Ford in the triple jump (44-11 ½) while Victor Costello was third in the 1500 meters (4:05.94).

The women had three athletes take fourth place, including Samantha Thompson in the 3000 meters (10:55.40), Stephanie Beaudette in the 5000 meters (18:25.13) and Chelsea O'Hanlon in the high jump (5-1). Matsko, McDaniel, Liz Tepsic and Katie Peters were third in the 4x400 meter relay (4:07.28).

IUP is back in action April 9 at the University of Maryland Invitational.
