Colleen Berlin (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) led the way as the IUP lacrosse team took a break from conference play and earned a 20-11 win over visiting Shepherd Thursday night at Miller Stadium.
Berlin netted five goals on seven shots and she also controlled four draws and grabbed three ground balls.
Becca Vogt (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) continued to play well scoring three times and assisting on three other goals.
Alexa Lodovici (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional), Corrine Miller and
Beth Glasshagel (Coram, NY/Newfield) each scored twice for the Crimson Hawks. Six other IUP players tallied a goal.
The Crimson Hawk defense put the clamps down in the first half helping the Crimson Hawks to a 15-5 halftime lead.
Taylor Norwood (Chantilly, VA/Chantilly) led the way finishing the game with a ground ball, two caused turnovers and two draw controls.
All three IUP goalkeepers saw time with
Kaitlin Sterling (Cranberry Twp./Seneca Valley) picking up the win despite a rocky start making four saves and allowing four goals. Katherine Davis made seven saves and only allowed three goals in just over 28 minutes.
Shepherd goalie Emily Melanson made 18 saves and Shannon Carta notched three goals for the Rams.
The Crimson Hawks start a three-game weekend road swing when they travel to the College of Notre Dame on Saturday and then play a pair of road matches on Sunday at Tiffin and Urbana.
