Colleen Berlin (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) led the IUP offense with four goals and two assists but the Crimson Hawks dropped a hotly contested 17-15 decision to PSAC leading West Chester Saturday afternoon at Miller Stadium.
IUP came out of the gate fast as
Alexa Lodovici (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) netted a goal just :12 into the game on a pass by Berlin. The Crimson Hawks built a 3-0 lead on goals by
Corinne Miller (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) and
Jessica Beck (Baltimore, MD/Western Tech).
West Chester answered with a pair of goals to cut the lead 3-2, but the IUP offense exploded with eight of the next nine goals to gain an 11-3 advantage. The Golden Rams battled back with six straight goals to make the halftime score 11-9.
In the second half West Chester scored the first three goals to go ahead 12-11. IUP responded again scoring three of the next four goals to lead 14-12.
The Golden Rams scored the game winning goal with 2:35 to play on a free-position shot by Devon Lotkowski.
In addition to Berlin, Lodovici also finished the game with six points on three goals and three assists.
Becca Vogt (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) tallied five points and a goal and four assists.
Jessica Beck (Baltimore, MD/Western Tech) chipped in a pair of goals.
Taylor Norwood (Chantilly, VA/Chantilly) keyed the IUP defense causing four turnovers, controlling five draws and grabbing two ground balls.
Katherine Davis was hooked with the loss in net after she relieved
Kaitlin Sterling (Cranberry Twp./Seneca Valley) early in the second half.
The Crimson Hawks take a break from PSAC action when they travel to Seton Hill Monday.
