Leander Toney reached the NCAA qualifying standard in the high jump while Brooke McDaniel finished first in the 200 meters and second in the 400 to highlight IUP's performance at the Paul Kaiser Classic at Shippensburg.

Toney cleared the bar at 7 feet, 1/2 inch to earn a return trip to nationals and broke the school outdoor record held by Stan Shockley since 1976 by 1/2 inch. Toney just missed the national title in the high jump at indoor nationals in March, tying for first but losing out for the win on the basis of misses. He was also fourth in both the indoor and outdoor high jump in 2010.

McDaniel posted a time of 25.23 in winning the 200 and crossed the finish line in 56.66 to place second in the 400. Laura Nientimp was 2nd in the 100 in 12.53 after recording a faster time of 12.39 in the prelims, and she was fifth in the 200 in 25.78.

Other event winners included Alyssa Taddie in the women's 3000 meter steeplechase (11:21.20) and Elly Kiptoo-Rono in the men's 5000 meters (15:18.83).

Taking second place finishes on the women's side were Liz Tepsic in the long jump (17-7 1/2) and Ayanna LeBlanc in the shot put (43-6). Victor Costello was second in the men's 1500 meters in 3:58.76.

The Crimson Hawks will compete at the Elliston Last Chance meet Saturday at Lock Haven. The PSAC meet takes place May 12-14 at Slippery Rock.
