INDIANA, PA – The IUP women's soccer team started their season with a bang when they defeated Notre Dame College by a score of 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.
Kelsey Fisher (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) scored the go-ahead goal early in the second half to seal the victory.
The temperature was scorching at South Campus Field on Saturday, but the Crimson Hawks came out even hotter, as
Lindsay Lobevero (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott) found the back of the net in the 14th minute. IUP took a 2-0 lead at the 27:30 mark when
Tori Pikur (Gibsonia/Pine-Richland) received a beautiful cross from
Tonya Fabian (Pittsburgh/Thomas Jefferson) and deposited the goal.
The Falcons came storming back late in the first half when Lauren Acker scored two unassisted goals in five minutes. She finished off a break away with an impressive goal at 33:08, and turned a miscommunication between the IUP goalkeeper and defender into the tying goal at 38:47.
The Crimson Hawks would respond in the second half, as Fisher finished off an excellent ball from
Carter Sheely (Carlisle/Cumberland Valley). From there, IUP wore down the Notre Dame defense and dominated possession of the ball.
Kelly Brennan (Middletown/Middletown) got the start in goal for the Crimson Hawks and had four saves.
Mara Hricik (Moon Twp./Moon) played the entire second half and had one save.
The Crimson Hawks begin PSAC West play this Wednesday when they host rival Cal at 4:00 p.m.
