Alexa Lodovici Notches Six Goals in 17-12 Win Over Queens

CHARLOTTE, NC – Alexa Lodovici (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) scored a team-high six goals and added an assist as the IUP lacrosse team rolled to a 17-12 win over Queens in North Carolina Thursday. With the win the Crimson Hawks improve to 1-1 on the early season.

IUP jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after Stephanie Bianco (King of Prussia/Upper Merion) recorded a pair of goals that sandwiched a score from Lodovici, but the Knights would respond with two quick goals to pull within one.

Late in the first half the Crimson Hawks would rip off three straight goals courtesy of Bianco, Lodovici and Becca Vogt (Hamburg, NY/Frontier), but Queens would answer with a three-goal run of their own that stretched into the second half to cut the IUP lead to just 6-5 early in the period.

The Knights would pull into their first tie with the Crimson Hawks at 9-9 after three goals with under 20 minutes to play in the game, but IUP would not be deterred. Colleen Berlin (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) scored a pair of goals to give the lead back to the Crimson Hawks, and Paige Corathers (Cranberry Twp./Seneca Valley) added another to give IUP some breathing room.

With the lead at 14-12 late in the game, The Crimson Hawks would tack on three more unanswered goals from Vogt, Berlin and Lodovici to seal the victory.

Berlin had four goals for IUP in the win, while Berlin added three goals. Vogt tallied two goals and a team-high four assists, and Corathers finished with two goals as well.

Brittany Philip led the way for Queens with four goals and an assist, while Kristi Kemp had three goals and Brittany Barnwell added two. Shannon Casey had a team-high four assists for the Knights.

Chelsea Hipp played all 60 minutes in goal for IUP and tallied 11 assists in the victory.

The Crimson Hawks travel to Misenheimer, NC this Sunday when they take on Pfeiffer. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
