Box Score
INDIANA, PA -
Alexa Lodovici (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) had a career-high 11 points, including five first half goals, as IUP got out to a 12-3 halftime lead and cruised to a 21-10 win over Millersville in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) women's lacrosse matchup on Saturday afternoon at a rain-soaked Miller Stadium.
The 11 points are one shy of a school record held by Mallory Zelawski, who put up 12 points against Millersville back in 2007. It tied teammate
Becca Vogt (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) for second, as she scored five points and had six assists in a game against Holy Family in 2009.
Lodovici started the scoring early, blowing past defenders for the game's first goal just 17 seconds in.
Stephanie Bianco (King of Prussia/Upper Merion) then made it a 4-0 lead for the Crimson Hawks as she scored IUP's next three goals over the span of 6:36. Lodovici and Vogt added assists on two of the goals.
Corinne Miller (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) made it a 5-0 game with an unassisted goal before Millersville finally got on the board when Hannah Vogel found the back of the net at 19:44.
The Crimson Hawks (4-1, 2-0) extended their lead to six when Bianco converted a pass from
Paige Corathers (Cranberry Twp./Seneca Valley) for a goal at 18:42 before Lodovici added her second of the game five minutes later for a 7-1 lead with 13:17 left in the half.
A Millersville (4-3, 1-1) goal at 9:21 made it 7-2 before IUP went on a 4-0 run, getting a pair of goals by Lodovici along with with scores by
Colleen Berlin (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) and
Michelle Zakrzewski (Purcellville, VA/Loudoun Valley) for an 11-2 lead with less than a minute left. A free position shot by Millersville with 25 seconds left made it an 11-3 game before Lodovici had the most exciting goal of the game, sprinting downfield and slashing through defenders to beat the buzzer, giving IUP the nine-point halftime lead.
Millersville was the first to score in the second half on a free position shot by Ashley Henderson, but IUP took an 11-point lead with a goal from Corathers followed by two more from Berlin, going on top 15-4 with 21:07 left.
The Marauders then went on a scoring binge, getting three straight in a span of 2:30 to climb within eight at 15-7 with 17:02 left.
After two straight goals by the Crimson Hawks by
Beth Glasshagel (Coram, NY/Newfield) and Lodovici and 13:00 and 12:30, respectively, the teams would trade goals down the stretch with IUP's final score coming with 14 seconds left by Bianco to finish off the game.
Henderson led the Marauders with four of their 10 goals while Vogel and Caitlin Shannon each added two.
All 25 Crimson Hawks saw time on the field in the win as eight different players scored goals led by Lodovici's six. Her five assists were also one shy of tying a school record.
Bianco added a season-high five goals while Berlin had four and Miller added two with an assist.
Chelsey Hipp (Clarksville, MD/Good Counsel) started and played 47 minutes in the net for the Crimson Hawks as her and Katherine Davis combined for 10 saves.
The Crimson Hawks are back in action on Monday for the second of five straight home games when they host the College of Notre Dame at 7:00 p.m.
