MILLERSVILLE, PA - Krista Matsko won the women's heptathlon and Jared Long and Brooke McDaniel were also victorious as the IUP men's and women's track & field teams competed at the Millersville Metrics this weekend.
Matsko won the heptathlon with 3680 points, besting the second place finisher by a narrow 18 points. She won the 100 hurdles, 200 metesr and 800 meters in helping her to the first place finish. Kendyl Paolini also competed in the heptatholin, finishing seventh overall.
McDaniel notched her win in the 400 meters, finishing with a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying time of 58.02. Stephanie Beaudette also had a conference championship meet qualifying time, finishing eighth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:26.04.
The men finished the weekend with five PSAC qualifiers, highlighted by Long's time of 53.37 in the 400 meter hurdles.
The Crimson Hawks had three second place finishes, including two in the 1500 meters when Clint Keller and Victor Costello crossed the finish line at the same time, finishing with a qualifying time of 4:03.09.
Brandon Ford notched a PSAC qualying distance in the triple jump, leaping 47-07.75 (14.52m), good enough for second place at the meet. Elijah Williams' time of 22.62 in the 200 meters was good for eighth, another conference meet qualifying time for IUP.
Competing in the men's heptathlon for IUP was Yoann Godet, who finished sixth with 4164 points. He took first in the shot put and finished second in the long jump, high jump, and 110 meter hurdles.
IUP returns to action the weekend of April 13 and 14 at Bucknell's Distance Carnival and at the Slippery Rock Invitational.
